Kate
and her best friend, Jaelyn, who came to spend a weekend with us, were up to something curious.
It
appeared as if they were flying through the forest, collecting wild
flowers and leaves and bringing their findings under a tree.
I
could see that they were building something that was deserving of a
sparkle in their eyes.
Soon
I learned that the girls were building a resting place for fairies,
whom they believed were inhabiting the forest.
A
tiny place; beds made of leaves and flower petals, with a little
couch and a diminutive chair... Snacks
were left for their elusive guests – some wild berries they had
collected.
They
hoped that the fairies would come and stay at their special fairy
sanctuary, even if only overnight...
I
just hoped that the girls wouldn't be disappointed next day...
At
morning's first light, I noticed an enthusiastic stir about the tree
where lay the sanctuary.
I
made my way towards the excitement and was greeted with joyful
screams: “They were here! The fairies came! You can see they took
our snack and the beds were touched! They will come again! They just
don't want to be seen!”
I
felt a weight lifted off my heart...
As
I watched the girls play I realized that fairies did exist..
The
fairies were these girls, leaping and bounding in front of me, living
a children's fantasy, a pure world filled with beauty and fairness.
This
year, I decided to have this fairy-inspired photo-shoot. Here are a
few images for today. Stay tuned for more!
