I asked Kate if she would give me some
of her time to take pictures of her by the Christmas tree. She agreed
and I promised her a reward after.
When we were done with the pictures, I
was very excited and started flipping through the images on my camera
to see what I had managed to capture...
Kate sat down next to me and after a
short while she reminded me: “A reward?”.
I responded: “Oh yes, of course. What
is it that you want me to get you? Maybe some hot chocolate, with
marshmallows, or a candy bar?”.
At that moment, I was happy that I
still had a fancy chocolate bar in my secret place in the kitchen,
where I keep my “surprise” snacks for special occasions like this
one... but...
“A puppy” was her confident answer,
uttered without a smile. Now, that was unexpected...
It took me a minute to recuperate from
the shock. Then I had to tell her, “You know, Kate, I can't get you
a puppy, not now”.
“Well,” she said, staring straight
into my face, without blinking once, “then I want you to delete all
the images you just took”.
Wow, I thought, am I being blackmailed
by my little girl.
I showed Kate the pictures I took of
her and the tree. She smiled. She liked them...
In the end, we settled on a candy cane
swirl.
I am not sure how long she will
continue to allow me to be a photographer, not just a mom who takes
snapshots of her when the opportunity arises. So far, I've been lucky
with my little model, who, most of the time is up to dressing up and
driving with me to our photo-shoot destinations :)
