Tribute to The Room

I remember when I thought it was time to make an effort to get Kate's room done... for her to enjoy her space and feel entitled, comfortable... belonging. A statement! I was so excited to figure out what she would be like. Kate was 5 years old then. She was so soft and pink, as I saw her. She was also fearless and outspoken at the same time. So much fun - never boring or predictable! The room had a mix of colours too: pink and light blue, the white and off-white, the pearl-beaded and silk curtains and an antique handmade side table. Like her character, the edge of being a little girly-girl and a tom-boy... ever trying out everything possible. Searching for her own identity. Beautiful...

Time has passed and she has grown out of the room I had imagined for her. She has grown out of the pink and blue, the white and off-white... She is more complex now, more sophisticated. The colours are changing fast. I welcome this change, as much as I dread it... That little girl of mine is growing up way too fast, leaving me off wondering who she will become, what her colours will be, and her music, and her sounds... This is all ahead of us. Today I am paying tribute to the room that served its purpose of being a place where Kate's dreams came true. Where the tooth fairy never failed. A place where my girl learned who she was and figured out what her next room will be like.
